Printed People

It makes me chuckle to see people wearing dashiki’s to every single African event.  Understandably when one doesn’t know too much about a culture they’re quick to grasp onto any straw they can.  However, a chuckle can quickly become an eye roll after the hundredth dashiki shows up to yet another African party that’s meant to be formal for a couple of reasons.  One being a dashiki is like wearing a shirt, don’t come to my wedding in a dashiki, it's a formal event.  The other being lack of originality.

Different countries have different patterns they’re known for.  Usually by looking at someone’s dressing I can gauge where they are from and which tribe they belong to.
